Nagrakata

Nagrakata

Nagrakata is a small town in the Malbazar subdivision of the Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal, located about 60 km north-east of Siliguri. It serves as the headquarters of the Nagrakata community development block and is famous for its extensive tea plantations. The town is surrounded by 14 tea gardens, collectively known as the Dooars Tea Company, which form the backbone of the local economy, providing livelihoods for 90% of the population. The railway station at Nagrakata was historically important for dispatching CTC (Crush, Tear, Curl) tea around the world, and the British developed the town with proper roads and railway lines for this purpose.

While Nagrakata is primarily known for its tea gardens, its scenic beauty and fresh green environment have made it a growing tourist spot. A long walk through the tea gardens offers a serene and refreshing experience. The town itself has a few religious sites, including the Om Temple and a Hanuman Temple, which are popular among locals.

Nagrakata's strategic location makes it an excellent base for exploring other popular tourist destinations in the Dooars region. Nearby attractions include the Bhutan border near the Jiti Tea Garden, which offers excellent views. The area also provides easy access to some of the most prominent forests and wildlife sanctuaries in the region, such as Gorumara National Park, Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, and Jaldapara National Park. Other nearby places that can be visited on a day trip include Jhalong, Bindu, and Samsing, known for their picturesque landscapes and natural beauty.
